After showcasing their talents in the prestigious 2019 Hotel Restaurant Café (HORECA) trade event in Kuwait, 10 talented chefs from the Maki Restaurant Group (including two from Maki Bahrain), earned between them an impressive assortment of medals.
HORECA, the region’s most prominent B2B hospitality exhibition, provides a platform for major culinary players in food and food-related industries to showcase their latest innovations, technologies and services. The event also hosts Hospitality Salon Culinaire, in which participants in a series of live-cooking competitions and display challenges are judged by a panel of elite international Master Chefs.
The Maki Restaurant Group’s history in this highly-acclaimed event is one to be revered. Indeed, for several years running, Maki chefs have earned a host of medals and food safety awards.
This year’s HORECA Kuwait, which took place in January, provided an opportunity for talented chefs to take part in a series of exciting live competitions, ranging from the three-plated dessert presentation to the themed celebration cake to an Asian cooking contest. After competing in the sushi-making and Asian cooking categories, the brilliant Maki restaurant chefs managed to snag between them an impressive collection of bronze, silver and gold medals.
Amer Zeitoun, co-founder and managing partner of the Maki Restaurant Group, said: “We are thankful to the founder of Leaders Group, Nabila Al Anjari, and Mohamad Najia, the group’s general manager, for giving young chef talent, both local and international, the opportunity to hone their skills and to shine during the competition.”
He added: “We are proud to have won 10 medals out of 10 participations, and to have two of our Bahrain chefs participate in this event for the first time. This reflects the positive creative spirit in our rising chefs, and our core philosophy of innovation. We are also very proud to have had one of our chefs be awarded the coveted Boecker Food Safety and Hygiene award.”
Founded in Kuwait in 2002 by Amer and his brother Mohamad (Oliver), the Maki Group, operates four locations in Kuwait and one in Bahrain. The restaurant was also listed on the Michelin guide upon opening its London branch.
Maki Bahrain is located at Bahrain World Trade Center, West Tower.
